Plastic litter sinks to the bottom of the deep sea.
The deep sea is dark, so finding litter by eye is hard.
A Japanese research team developed "DeepLitterAI".
They had it learn from 12,000 photos of the sea taken since 1983.
They also found ways to keep it from mistaking rocks and living things for litter.
It can detect 80% of major litter and is twice as fast as a human.

Because that is how Japanese children learn to read. Japan's Ministry of Education fixes exactly which character belongs to which grade — so "grade 3" is a boundary you can verify, not a feeling. Every article here is machine-checked: if a single character sits above its grade, it is not published.
The result: you never hit a character you have not learned. That is the whole reason this product exists.
